I step back from her. I want to see it all. My eyes rove down her body and linger on the lips I’m yet to taste.

She can sense my eager curiosity. She turns slowly before me, enjoying being on display. I stretch out for her, the distance between us only mere inches, but still I need her closer.

She smiles wickedly and steps just out of reach. Her eyes blaze into mine. I’m mesmerised as she touches herself, gently massaging her perfectly pert breasts, teasing her nipples with a slow, sensual expertise.

I find myself mimicking her movements and, as I reach the heat between my legs, I gasp in surprise at my own wetness.

The palm of her hand covers mine and our movements become one. The feel of her breasts against mine is so inviting, her skin like warm honey on fresh-baked bread.

I slip my hand from beneath hers, delirious in the control she has over me. I open myself up to her, freeing myself for her.

The delicate, lazy circles she draws around my clitoris are met with a gush of approval. I cry out her name as my hips buck towards my exhilarating climax, her fingers enter me, building my orgasm in a deafening crescendo.

She kisses me deeply as my body bends to her will and I am spent.

Breathless and weak from her amorous advances in the hallway, she leads me to the sofa and wraps me in the throw, resting over the back.

I lean into her. I’m hungry to explore her. I want to repay the tangle of lust she has caused in me.

“Let’s not rush. We’ve got all night,” she whispers.

She winds her legs into mine and lies with me in the warm glow of post-coital bliss. She nuzzles into my neck and brushes stray strands of my hair from my face. She kisses the tip of my nose as my eyelids start to flutter closed.

My sleep is dreamless. I wake refreshed and warm in the pool of sunshine streaming through the windows.

A lazy smile plays on my face as the memory of the evening floats into my mind.

It dawns on me suddenly that I’m alone…

My eyes fly open. Aware of my nakedness, I hurriedly find my clothes and dress. I hunt for my phone. I find it on the coffee table, weighing down a note.

> **“Last night was everything… I couldn’t stay, I’m sorry.”**
>
> **X**

Couldn’t, wouldn’t? Or just didn’t want to?

If it was ‘everything’, why aren’t you here?

Anxiously, I pick up my mobile. I scroll to your name in the contacts and press call.

It rings for a while and goes to voicemail. I’ve heard the recording a thousand times before, I know it by heart, but today it sounds different… new, exciting. It makes me long for you.

I don’t leave a message. I didn’t think my words were needed after last night.

I’ve never been with a woman. I’ve never been with anyone like that before, and yet I still feel lost…

Will I ever be enough?

Endless repeats of ancient sitcoms play on the television. I’d turn it over, but I can’t be bothered to look for the remote.

I flick through Facebook aimlessly on my phone.

**“Date Night with my Beau, don’t wait up.”**

My breath catches in my throat.

Looking more beautiful than ever, she’s draped over his arm…

I’m incensed.

The tears spring to my eyes. The betrayal I feel is insurmountable.

I open Messenger and type just three words…

**“How could you?”**

I pad into the kitchen and pour myself a large glass of wine. As I swirl the contents of the cold glass, pain cradling my heart, my phone chirps with a reply…

**“Please let me explain. I’ll be there at midnight. Wait for me.”**

Midnight?

**MIDNIGHT!**

Who does she think she is?

Cinder-fucking-rella?

If I had done with a man what I did with her last night, I’d be called a slut – especially by her!

Thing is… it’s never been like that with a man. She changed my whole way of thinking in just one night, and now she’s off gallivanting with some bloke!

I knock back the rest of the glass and pour myself another. I watch the minutes tick by on the clock.

Despite myself, I shower and dress for her arrival.

On the dot, as promised, she knocks at my door.

I take my time to answer. She had no issues making me wait.

Not meeting her look, I invite her in… something about the way she moves alarms me.

Her name comes out as a whisper as I note the tear in her dress and the bruise on her face…

I close the door behind her. She leans into the wall and slumps to the floor.

Low, soft whimpers seep from her, as if she were a wounded animal.

I sit beside her. I try to soothe her, but nothing makes a difference.

“It’s okay, you’re safe here… Just talk to me.”

I stumble over my words. I just need her to say something, anything.

We sit for a while, her head nestled in the crook of my neck, her tear-stained face finally at peace, fallen asleep in the shelter of me.

I shuffle out from beside her. I grab a cushion and blanket from the sofa, just in case she wakes.

I head to the bathroom and fill the tub with warm, bubbly water. I tiptoe back out to the hall and steal myself one last glance at her before I break into her sleep.

I kiss her forehead softly. Her beautiful long limbs stretch as she wakes.

“I’ve run a bath for you. Fresh towels are by the tub.”

It comes out a little harsher than I expect.

Her head snaps up at the sound of my voice and she seems wary, scared almost.

My heart lurches. I’m desperate to scoop her up into my arms. I’ve never seen her look so fragile and small.

“I can explain…” she starts.

“I hope so,” I cut her off.

She looks stung at my interruption but takes it without another word.

She gingerly gets to her feet. As she passes by me, her fingers brush my shoulders and a soft “sorry” hangs in the air as she disappears into the bathroom.

I leave her to soak whilst I busy myself with tea in the kitchen. My breathing is erratic, and I notice I’m shaking.

I grip onto the side, steadying myself.

So many questions thunder through my mind. The noise is unbearable.

Lost in thought, I don’t hear her footsteps.

Her arms snake around my waist and feather-light kisses spill across my bare shoulders.

“Don’t,” I warn.

She stills immediately and retreats to the breakfast bar.

“I know you’re angry. I never meant last night to happen. I shouldn’t have come tonight.”

Her words rush out, but it’s meaningless.

“That’s not an explanation,” I spit back. “If you didn’t want last night to happen, why make your move? Convenient? Horny? Bored?”

My anger is palpable.

“I don’t want excuses. I want the fucking truth!”

She sits for a minute and considers her reply.

She sashays out of the kitchen and picks up her bag from the hall.

“You want my reason? This is my reason!”

It’s a sort of “fuck you” and “I’ll show you!” all in one.

She upends her bag and fifty-pound notes rain down on the floor. I can’t help noting the strip of condoms that fall out with it.

“I don’t get it.”

My words sound as flummoxed as I feel.

“I’m an escort. All those nice things you constantly remind me that I have and you want… they cost money… this is how I pay for them.”

She scowls.

I’m numb!

I’m not sure if it’s the revelation or the fact that she could see me like a client.

I don’t speak. I just stare at her.

What’s worse is, no matter my anger, I’m desperate to touch her.

Now I know what she does, would she expect me to pay?

Would I pay?

While these thoughts race around my mind, each one more ridiculous than the next, she clearly gets bored of waiting for a response.

She scrabbles around the floor, stuffing the cash back in her bag, and stalks out of the kitchen.

As she reaches the threshold, I find my voice.

“Is that why you’re back? Payment?” I sneer.

She whips round to face me so fast, she takes my breath away.

Her face in mine, I’m defiant. I refuse to back down, not to move first.

Her hand grabs the back of my neck. Her mouth presses against mine, her tongue parts my lips with a delicious skill she has clearly honed.

Her other hand slides beneath my shirt and frees my already hard nipples from my bra. She rolls them back and forth between finger and thumb, teasing until I smash into that pleasure/pain barrier.

Fuck!

This is hot.

She breaks away from me, breathless, hot, rebellious…

**“I was back for you! A black eye, a fat lip… FOR YOU! I quit tonight. I said no to sex with that arrogant piece of shit and I got a smack in the mouth for it. I wanted you… but fuck this. Take your pity party elsewhere. At least I know who I am!”**

She rushes from the room, I assume to dress.

A couple of minutes later, the front door slams and the flat is silent.

I wait a while, but she has definitely gone.

The loneliness is so close, it’s like it’s choking me.

**“Beep.”**

My phone flashes.

Her name lights my screen…
