- Description: A poem written for a young girl girl trying to find her way through the unimaginable loss of her mum. For the things she still wants to say, the memories she holds onto, and the anger, guilt and numbness that grief leaves behind.

I don’t remember the sound of your voice,

It’s hard to summon a memory of your face.

And for no particular reason,

Sometimes, I feel oddly out of place.

I think about the things I’d tell you.

Sometimes, I still try,

Whispering into the darkness

So Dad won’t hear me cry.

I wear your shoes to keep me grounded,

Your jumpers ’cause they’re like a hug.

Wrap myself in your oldest blanket,

And drink from your favourite mug.

I feel guilty on the days that I’m happy.

It’s worse on the days I’m sad.

I’ve got nobody to be angry at,

But I’m just so fucking mad.

I know that life has to move on.

How do you do that when you feel so numb?

I know you’d have all my answers.

I really miss you, Mum.
